Imperial Palace is the
residence of the Emperor of Japan., is
located on the former site of Edo Castle, a large park area surrounded by moats
and massive stone walls in the center of Tokyo, a short walk from Tokyo station.
Most of the palace is generally
off-limits to the public, but the East Gardens are usually accessible to
tourists. The inner palace is open to the public on only two days during each
year, the Emperor's birthday and at the New Year (January 2).
